Pau Gasol

I had the great honour of hosting a couple of sessions at the Pl4nets 2020 online conference last month, a very inspiring initiative from six-time NBA hall of famer Pau Gasol, a national hero here in Catalonia and Spain, together with Thinking Heads

The Gasol Foundation, founded by Pau and his brother Marc Gasol, has been working since 2013 to reduce childhood obesity rates through the promotion of sports and physical activity, healthy eating, sleep quality, and the emotional well-being of children, adolescents and their families.

On day one of the event I interviewed Marlene Schwartz, Director at UConn Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity and former Deputy Director at Yale University, and on day four I chaired a session with Caryl M. Stern, executive director of the Walton Family Foundation and former president and CEO of UNICEF USA, and also Angela Ruggiero, a four-time Olympian and gold medalist in ice hockey for Team USA who has been named the Best Player in the World and is a member of the 2019 US Olympic Hall of Fame.

It was awesome to welcome a surprise guest to the second session when Pau dropped in to say hi and share an inspiring message for the delegates. Of course, I had to take a screengrab 🙂

I have no doubt that this alliance of scientists, athletes, and academics will have a great impact on the world, and the future health of our children. You can check out their work and join the solidarity movement at pl4nets.com.
