#85: Greening the Live Events Industry

Greening the Live Events Industry
In this extended episode of Audio Talks, we explore how the live events industry is rising to the challenge of the climate crisis.
Recorded on Earth Day, Oisin Lunny discusses what a greener live music industry could look like with Claire O’Neill – CEO and Co-Founder of A Greener Future and Katy Templeman-Holmes – Senior Director of Product Strategy & Sustainability at Harman Professional.
From cultural shifts across the live music industry, innovative solutions like Act 1.5, and the impact of power consumption, hear how everything from powerful collective action, food choices, and innovations in manufacturing are helping the industry reduce its carbon footprint and accelerate towards a greener future.

About A Greener Future
Previously A Greener Festival. A not-for-profit company committed to helping events, tours, venues and festivals around the world to be greener. Founders of the worlds first green event standards – the AGF Awards. We provide information, education resources and facilitate the exchange of good ideas. We consult with organisations and events of all scales from Roskilde Festival, BST Hyde Park, AEG, The Queens Platinum Jubilee, RHS, Royal Parks, The O2 Arena, Wembley Arena, to small grassroots organisations. All of our activities are to create a greener live events ecosystem globally. Since 2007, our ‘AGF Certification’ scheme has assessed over 1000 events and venues worldwide; it has been instrumental in helping organisations to adapt or refine their actions, improving resource efficiency and environmental impact. Following the original Greener Festival Award, in 2017 we launched the “Greener Event Award” and since the “Greener Arena Certification” and “Greener Tour Certification” which now works with Conferences, Trade Fairs, Sports Events, Arenas, Venues, Ceremonies and more. Why Apply for certification? Aside from the publicity gained from being part of the AGF certification scheme, the process ensures that events complete an Environmental Impact Assessment to understand, set targets, monitor and improve environmental performance. This is beneficial not only for our environment and the industry as a whole but also sets events at a competitive advantage to those who don’t grasp this vital knowledge.
