Northwall – The List (1998)
Northwall “The List” was the brainchild of Chillean label boss Colm Carty who came up with the concept and wrote the lyrics to this track, and the production is very much of its time. Dublin MC Ray O’Reilly aka Voodoo Ray came on board as the vocalist and it was pressed in limited copies then sunk without trace for several decades.
One of the main names featured on “The List” (which I think was inspired by an Irish newspaper) very tragically died in an accident at home, two years after the release. My thoughts are always with his friends and family.
Vocalist Voodoo Ray is an old friend and fellow Northern Soul obsessive, we used to hang out a lot back in the day.
Northwall “The List” was featured in the closing credits for the film Notes On Rave In Dublin, directed and edited by James Redmond, and released in 2020. Notes On Rave In Dublin is a roller coaster ride through the birth pangs of dance music in our dirty old town. From the democratic romance of those early loved up dancefloors to how a cold social stratification and commercialisation crept back. Leaving it up to a network of outsider labels, pirates and ravers to establish an indigenous scene that we now call our own. This is a story of how an underground works, mutates and survives.
